About the standard

  • Products must be non-new. When a product that has previously been owned is purchased and used again, the life of that product is extended and the impact of making that product is spread over a longer period of time.

  • Products must go through an approved grading process and be in very good condition or a defined equivalent. Products in very good or better condition are more likely to replace the purchase of a new product.

  • Products must belong to one of the specified product categories. These product categories have been assessed to determine the average environmental impact of buying pre-owned instead of new.
