The Turmeric's golden color is chef's kiss
priya thinagar
No mention of culture is complete without mentioning food. This week we will explore food with the use of colors.
Here is how I make it
- I add a spoon of ghee to a pan and then add mustard seeds and wait for it to pop. When it pops, I add chana dhal, cumin seeds, 1 red chilli and 1 green chilli slip across together with curry leaves. When the chana dhal turns sligthly brown and roasted, I add bring yellow turmeric powder and saute on low flame so as to not let the turmeric burn. To this I add the cooked rice, get the coating of the beautiful yellow on the rice. switch off the flame and add lemon juice and salt. Toss and serve. Such a delicious simple food.
When I see this lemon rice I am reminded of this bright yellow kurta that has long sleeves and is hand crated with these intricate white threads that dangle in the hands of the artisan that created this beauty.
If you love the warm smells of turmeric and the bright sunshiny yellow hues, you might like this kurta.
